Agate is a gemstone that is a compact aggregate of chalcedony, ie crystalline quartz. It is made up of thin parallel and differently colored layers, which form concentric or irregular patterns. Agate is culturally and historically one of the oldest gemstones and has been used for more than 3,000 years. Agate is found all over the world, but the largest deposits have been made in India, Brazil, Scotland, Uruguay, Finland and Egypt.
